Beware of the Frandoo

The Frandoo is most commonly known as a mythical creature... It looks like a dachshund but with a hunger... A hunger for love. These never before seen photos prove that the Frandoo exists, swiftly and mercilessly smothering those with kisses who cross it's path.

Beware.

Dachshund Love - Joey

Photo from DachshundLove.blogspot.com

If you're a doxie lover and you've never visited this blog, you sure have been missing out. The Long and Short of it All is the blog of Dachshund blogs.

Right now, Joey, one of the beloved hosts of this blog is very ill. He just had surgery and is now dealing with pancreatitis. He's not doing well and we are just sick with worry. We love Joey (and Maggie too!) and Nina tells me that every time she looks at me, she can't help but think of Joey and his family.

So please think positive thoughts about Joey and hope that he pulls through.

Love,
Franny

Yummy Squirrel

I've never eaten a squirrel before but I often dream about doing so. I imagine they'd taste really good... maybe even better than the stale french fries I find under the car seat!

I've encountered many a squirrel. They're evil little things! Remember this incident?! It's as if it were just yesterday...

This is how I view squirrels.

This is what I would request for my last meal on this earth.

This is the closest I've ever come to eating a squirrel.

Yum!

... and I will eat you!

Is that all? Good things never last...

Squirrelly about squirrels,
Franny

Sunny Florida - Part II

Back home in Northern California, whenever we go to the beach, we are really visiting the "Pacific Ocean". The "Pacific Ocean" water is super salty and murky and green or sometimes brown... It's actually kind of dirty and I always have fun running away from the waves. Where Pony lives in Florida, the beaches are part of something called the "Atlantic Ocean". I've heard it's big and scary, but the water was clean and clear and the day was nice and hot.

Hello, Atlantic Ocean!

It didn't seem too bad but I decided to keep my distance...

That is, until Nina scooped me up and decided she'd give me an impromtu swimming lesson!

These legs were not made for swimming!

I guess only responsible Dachshund owners buy their doxies life vests for swimming.

They let me go and I flipped over like a hot dog in water! What did they expect? This is me being plucked from the water after my body capsized.

Ahh, much better...

I decided I'd admire the ocean from a safe distance... And run away from Nina if she came anywhere near me.

I wonder if there are any gophers in Florida...

Florida, you're not so bad. I think I like you very much.

Hot dog,
Franny

Sunny Florida - Part I

Nina and I took a plane ride across the country to sunny Florida to visit Pony. We actually took this trip a few months ago but staying true to the Doxiementary fashion, we are blogging about it now.

We made a stop in NYC on our way over to West Palm Beach. In total, we traveled for almost 12 hours! Luckily, I didn't have to stay stuffed in the bag the entire time. In the middle of our flight, I was able to peek out the window... I saw a sea of fluffy white clouds! For the rest of the flight I dreamt of digging for gophers in the clouds.

Here I am lounging on a suitcase in Pony's apartment. I was feeling a mix of grumpiness and excitement. And I was starving!

In West Palm Beach on Okeechobee.

Florida is hot and sunny with unexpected showers, lots of palm trees, and lots of water.

Stay tuned for more!

Drumroll, please...

And the Green Doxie Award goes to...

trickponies & Ammo

Ammo the Dachshund wears an eco-friendly collar made from a re purposed grain sack (www.handmadegreen.com). He recycles all of his dog food cans, and uses biodegradable bags to pick up his "mess". Ammo's dog bed duvet cover is from mollymutt.com and its stuffed with old blankets and clothes that are past their prime.

He also works in my custom framing shop daily, where he helps me donate all of our matboard scraps to local elementary schools for art projects. We also REUSE or RECYCLE almost everything. From cardboard boxes, packing peanuts, kraft paper, etc. We also always save customer's old picture frames to be spray painted and made into cork boards. We even save tomato sauce jars to store screws and nails in at the shop. And Ammo made sure we sell the book "Eco Dog" (about how your dog can be eco) in our shop!

Good Luck to everyone on being Eco-friendly with your dogs!! There is a lot we can do!

Please email your shipping address to nina@doxiementary.com to claim your prize!

It was a tie between trickponies and hernewdeal. So our Green friend, Scott had to toss a coin to decide the winner. Thank you, hernewdeal for being so green!

Any little eco-friendly thing you do is a big step towards a greener future. We just want to thank everyone for participating and for thinking and being green!

GREEN DOXIE

Are you a Green Doxie? I HOPE SO!

In celebration of Earth Day, I'm going to bestow the ultimate of ultimate awards to a deserving Green Doxie! It's literally a green doxie (along with some treats, toys, & other goodies, of course)!

Now, you don't have to be a doxie to participate. You can be a Yorkie, Pug, Shih-Tzu, or a Yorkie/Pug/Shih-Tzu Mix! As long as you can post a comment explaining how or listing all the ways you are "green", you're welcome to join in on the fun!

Here's an example: I make sure Nina uses biodegradable plastic bags to pick-up my poop.

You can also list other things like how your human recycles or rides a bike to work.

Comments must be posted by April 21st on THIS post!

The winner will be chosen by our very GREEN friend, Scott.

The winner will be announced on April 22nd, Earth Day!

Good luck!

In The Nude

Nina has been slacking on Doxiementary and I have seriously considered running away and finding a new human to help me with my blog. So much has happened that I want to share with you but I guess I'll have to be "patient"... Whatever that means! I hear it means waiting forever and being quiet about it.

Here's what you can expect in the next couple weeks: There will be some contests with awesome prizes. You will meet all my new friends at doggy daycare, including a Pitbull named Phoenix! Some info about my upcoming trip to Florida! And my recent doctor's visit.

Before I go...

It's supposedly narcissistic to put up naked photos of yourself on the internet, but I've been called worse. Enjoy!

xoxo,
Franny

Happy Birthday, Margot!

Margot Poopy-Face is 2 years old today! Hard to believe she used to look like this:

I was cuter!

She was really annoying as a puppy - always following me around!

She's all grown up now and no longer a puppy... which means I can beat her up without getting in trouble!

Oh, Margot. Thank Dog you're cute.

Love,
Franny

Yippee! I'm Back!

I've been gone for far too long! It feels good to be back where I belong - the spotlight! I missed all my friends in the blogosphere, that's for sure! So where did I go? Well, let me tell you a little story...

October 2009: Nina and Margot went to Florida to visit Pony. Margot had a lot of fun hanging out with our new cousin, a Cavi. After a week in Florida, they flew up to NYC to visit Boyfriend. Shortly after returning to California, Nina and Boyfriend decided to part ways due to the thousands of miles between them.

November 2009 - January 2010: A forlorn Nina was too busy with her own feelings and work, that she neglected me for a few months. I tried my best to make her realize that precious time was being wasted on her depression and that really, it should be spent on me. But she didn't listen. She never listens to me (she underestimates my intelligence). So then I became depressed... Thanksgiving and Christmas drifted along, like pieces of my broken heart floating down a river of my tears... But now, she is FINALLY snapping out of it. I really hope Nina's New Year's Resolution for 2010 is to stop being selfish about her personal issues, because I matter more. And as much as I hate to admit it, my sisters, Ellie and Margot, matter too. But I matter more.
From the Doxiementary Gang:
EAT, DRINK, & BE HAIRY IN 2010!!!

Love, Franny

P.S. Updates to come! If not, I'll be sure to pee in Nina's bed!
